Kitty physical therapy for hips- what are some good exercises?
My 2-year-old cat was in an accident about 4 months ago. She and her sister knocked some things over, which landed on her and broke both her back hips. She had surgery (femoral excision), and she's generally doing very well now.
The only problem is that her back legs are not very strong, and I have a hard time getting her to exercise and strengthen them. She gets around fine, but she walks with her back hunched so more weight goes on her front legs, in fact, she can't stand up on her back legs or jump. Her back legs and hips look small and weak. She's always been a sort of lazy cat, not interested in pouncing after toys and more interested in sitting in laps and purring, so efforts with dangly- and laser-toys have not worked.
What other exercises or activities could I try to encourage her to use her back legs more? She seems pretty content, but I worry if she's inactive it will cause more problems later.
Give her A Madge every day.
She will get made about it but put her in the tub with worm water and try to get her to just walk around in it.Trust me it will be the best thing for her. Make shore that she can stand in the tub the water should be up to her belly. You can make A harness for her so that she will not slip and that way she can not get out. Start out with 3 minuets and work you way up to about 15 minutes. Do it every day until you thank she is close to the way she was before. Also you can give her some vitamin supplements to help her also you might want to try the ones for arthritis. you can get both at walmart. Just do not use the Hertz or sergent kind.
