Math Missions
Will I get into Northwestern University?

Here are my specs:
31 ACT
3.91 Unweighted GPA
4.13 Weighted GPA (both on 4.0 scales)

8 AP Courses - 4 Tests Already Taken (AP World Hist. - 4, AP Physics - 4, AP US Hist. - 3, AP English Lang. - 5)

Athletics:
Varsity/Captain in Soccer and Tennis

Extra Currics:
National Honor Society, AP Scholar, Upperclassman Spirit Organization, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, President of Scrabble Club, Marching/Symphonic Bands, and tutored in math at my high school
I also went on a medical missions trip to Honduras.

I'll probably go early decision to NW, so what do you think my chances are at getting in?

I think you have a 100% chance of getting into Northwestern and you will do well there.

Northwestern accepts a large percentage of applicants when compared to the top ten schools.

My friend's son went to Harvard and he had all fives except for one four on his ten AP tests. What Harvard liked about him was that he was academically well rounded. You show strength in athletics, history, science and English and probably other areas once you finish your AP exams. Your statistics show that you can handle college level work. Academic grades are somewhat unimportant, unless they are low, in which case a rejection is common. Once one has acceptable grades, class rank becomes more important.

Of most importance though is the fact that you've proven yourself on these national exams.

One issue schools have been vocal about concerns students who have been in too many activities while mastering none. They are more likely to admit someone who has national recognition in one or two areas. You might want to attach a short essay about your activities or sort them into categories. The first two are academic honors. President of Scrabble and Captain show leadership ability. Math tutor and the trip to Honduras were your community service activities. Try to show some sort of state or national recognition for your band playing or your athletic abilities. But, don't worry if you can't because your application is strong enough for NW. Also, I have one concern, which may be unfounded about Christian athletes. I don't know that much about college administrators, but many professors think scientifically and don't typically have religious beliefs. I remember one of my professors stating that she was the only one with religious beliefs. Religion and politics can be hairy areas. If the admissions personal are religious, your involvement in a Christian group would be seen as a positive. You may want to ask admissions people at other schools how they view religion on an application and try to read something into their politically correct answers.

I don't think that Northwestern will have any hesitation over admitting you.
